Structural Analysis
As the engineering and structural demolition expert on the Sanfor/Solvey project, our demolition services were required to model the progressive collapse of the building. We accomplished this using our structural analysis software (ELS).
The demolition contractor, Cardem, successfully implemented the demolition the same day the model was completed.
ASI’s Extreme Loading® for Structures (ELS) software uses nonlinear dynamic analysis to predict the collapse shape of structures. The Applied Element Method (AEM) implemented in ELS allows estimating the shape of collapse and the mode of failure as well as the impact of the debris with the structure.
Within the INACHUS project, investigators used this to identify cavities with a high likelihood of containing survivors after a structural collapse. It also helped engineers assess debris-pile stability, determine the safest access routes for USaR personnel, and evaluate whether structural components could be removed safely without destabilizing the debris field.
