On June 12, 2024, the Northern Producer was successfully demolished at Kishorn Port, Scotland, with zero HSE Lost Time Incidents (LTI) or reportables, marking a significant milestone in UK decommissioning projects.
Originally a drilling rig converted into a floating production facility, the Northern Producer posed unique challenges due to its size and location. Measuring 108.2m long, 68.6m wide, 36.6m high, and weighing 11,500 tons, its decommissioning required meticulous planning.
Engineering analysis also predicted the impact location and impulse hitting the ground, guiding the protection scheme for the dry dock slab. The predicted vibrations impacting nearby structures were in good agreement with actual measured vibrations during the drop.
The debris spread aligned precisely with the controlled expectations set by Liberty and ASI’s collaborative efforts.
